9/8/18 DFI #3

We began today with some reflection sharing time "Connecting with each other". Each person shared what they remember from the previous week, what they have tried and what could have been done better. Today we were fortunate to have Dave Winter as our Guest Speaker and co-presenter with Vicky and Makaore. They spoke about Google Forms and how they can be used. We were also given some Explore time to create and use these forms.
Next we did a 'Chalk and Talk' session on Google Sheets 101. This was followed by a Deep Dive on gathering and using statistics. I found this session difficult as there were a lot of processes and I didn't have real statistics to work with but this something I will pursue in the near future.
We finished our session using Google maps and creating maps using a range of ideas in the classroom. This will be perfect for our Inquiry about Otaki and New Zealand. This is definitely something I will use in my classroom.

The biggest thing I off today was...Practice...Practice...Practice to familiarize my self with all these new tools.

What Next???
Scavenger hunt + continue using and developing voice type + arrange a hangout with a friend in Levin. I also need to follow up with "Scratch" and watch and read the following slides:

Slide 1: (Video to watch) Slide 3: Collaborating Slide 7: Empowering Learners Slide 8: Creativity and sharing is not just about chrome books Slide 9: Videos about creativity through exploring Slide 12: Creating - ideas (Curriculum planning) Slide 22 The 6 C’s Slide.

  1. Kia ora Kahura,

It's great to see you reflecting on your learning. It's tricky to take on a new skill when you are feeling over loaded. Perhaps you could revisit the spreadsheet session when it's run again on the Saturday or we could have a toolkit on sheets.
