DFI Session #2

This morning we started with a "Hangout". Dorothy spoke to us from Auckland and gave us an introduction to AKO. I found this app fascinating and a tool that I could use in my class as well as in my personal life to link or communicate with others. The biggest message I took from this conversation is that effective teaching and practice equals accelerated learning. Dorothy also spoke about Manaiakalani as a place of learning and shared their pedagogy. There is a short video to that shows this. "Supporting communities from the analog to digital world'.

Today we were lucky to have a quest speaker named Michael Davidson. He showed us how to tidy up our emails, folders, use the Toby and One Tab tools and also to bookmark and organise or bookmark bar where only symbols are shown. Michael also showed us how to use and organise our calendars. A wealth of knowledge, tena koe.

Reflection:

There was a lot of information and knowledge shared today. It went quite fast and hard to keep up at times. I am a person who needs time to 'use' and 'practice' several times to familiarize myself so I don't become a "Jack of all trades and a Master of none". I prefer to know and learn the ins and outs of each app, extension or tool before moving on. Still enjoyed my day and learn't lots. This week I will continue to use Voice Type, Calendar, Email, Bloggs and will hook up a "Hang Out" next week with a friend (teacher) in Levin. No reira koutou I tae a tinana, a Hangout i te rangi nei, e mihi ana.
